Meet U.S. Representative Kyrsten Sinema, from Arizona’s 9th district. Labeled by her Republican opponent as an anti-American “pagan hippie,” Sinema is both the first openly bisexual member of Congress and the first member of Congress to publicly describe her religion as “none.”
Sinema, a former social worker and criminal defense lawyer, proves that honesty about one’s beliefs and identity does not doom one to political irrelevance.
This, in 2012, seemed both long overdue and increasingly inevitable. A lot of really big, really important “firsts” in our politics last year, in the forms of some very worthy and exciting new figures.
Stand & be counted.

After their remarks about Katrina being caused by sin, what will religious conservatives say if a hurricane wipes out the RNC?
Quotes from religious conservatives within days of Katrina:
John Hagee: ”I believe that New Orleans had a level of sin that was offensive to God, and they are — were — recipients of the judgment of God for that.”
Pat Robertson: “We have killed over 40 million unborn babies in America. … But have we found we are unable somehow to defend ourselves against some of the attacks that are coming against us, either by terrorists or now by natural disaster? Could they be connected in some way?”
Chuck Colson: “‘Did God have anything to do with Katrina?,’ people ask. My answer is, he allowed it and perhaps he allowed it to get our attention.”

This is from a flyer for an organization that wants you to donate money to it so the organization in turn can give Bibles to “the Bibleless.”
“Because why waste money on truly needed things like food, shelter and medicine?” asked Jesus H. Christ.
This is so true. Most religious people I know (NOT just Christians but ALL religions) are much more focused on spreading the word of their “God” than actually helping people.

Most bigot’s morality comes down to this.
Nine-year-old stages a one-man anti-Westboro protest
Meet Josef Miles: While walking around the Washburn University campus with his mother, Josef noticed a group of protesters from the Westboro Baptist Church. After reading the group’s signs, Miles asked his mother if he could create his own sign. A sign featuring his thoughts on God’s worldview. With the approval of his mother, Patty Akrouche, Josef wrote “God Hates No One” on a notepad, crossed the street, and proceeded to spend a few minutes staging a protest of his own. If you need an invisible sky wizard to tell you not to murder people, I’m staying far away just in case you have a crisis of faith.

I need “Invisible Sky Wizard” somehow made into a t-shit that I will wear often.
Also, this post is terrifying.
