Really cool thing happened yesterday.  Chloe and I went for a long walk and at some point she ended up in her stroller playing with some apps.  One of her favorites is the Doc McStuffins app from Disney.  The app lets kids give different virtual toys checkups using a variety of doctor tools: otoscope, stethoscope, reflex hammer, etc.  The otoscope has an option to utilize the iPad’s camera to give your own toys (and not just the app’s virtual toys) a checkup.
At some point Chloe turned on this function and used the iPad as a way to look at people and things on the street.  She would frame them in the otoscope and try different angles and switch between vertical and horizontal view.  It was really cool to watch her figure out how to use the app functionality for something other than what it was designed for.
I get really excited when I see Chloe and her friends using technology.  They much rather engage with apps vs. watching content.  The iPad is going to have a massive impact on how they learn and interact with the world.

We went to the Tampa International Plaza mall today for some End-Of-2012 shopping.

These two pictures were taken about five minutes apart.  Not that it was ever in doubt but Apple’s holiday is going to be quite a bit brighter than Microsoft’s.  There was such a long line at the Apple store that it took us 30 minutes to buy one new iPhone 5.  There was no one at the Microsoft/Dell store.  But they did have comfy couches.

For those who do want a side-by-side comparison chart, Rene Ritchie of iMore went ahead and updated the one Amazon made to be slightly more accurate.

Yep.

The most interesting thing about President Obama’s verification photo for the Reddit AMA he’s doing right now? Trackpads must not be his thing; he’s using a Magic Mouse.

Serious Reddit user is serious.
Also, is that a Retina MacBook Pro?

Steve Jobs Would Be Appalled by Apple’s Terrible New Ads

If you’ve been watching the Olympics, chances are that by now, you’ve caught at least one of Apple’s new TV ads for its Macbook laptops. If not, consider yourself spared.

The spots themselves aren’t exactly nauseating, just strangely disappointing when compared to Apple’s classic back catalog of commercials — the marketing equivalent of Michael Phelps’ fourth-place finish in the 400 IM.

I may be over 3,000 miles away but thanks to FaceTime I can spend some time with Chloe before she goes to bed.
