Really cool thing happened yesterday. Chloe and I went for a long walk and at some point she ended up in her stroller playing with some apps. One of her favorites is the Doc McStuffins app from Disney. The app lets kids give different virtual toys checkups using a variety of doctor tools: otoscope, stethoscope, reflex hammer, etc. The otoscope has an option to utilize the iPad’s camera to give your own toys (and not just the app’s virtual toys) a checkup.
At some point Chloe turned on this function and used the iPad as a way to look at people and things on the street. She would frame them in the otoscope and try different angles and switch between vertical and horizontal view. It was really cool to watch her figure out how to use the app functionality for something other than what it was designed for.
I get really excited when I see Chloe and her friends using technology. They much rather engage with apps vs. watching content. The iPad is going to have a massive impact on how they learn and interact with the world.
