“For Tumblr, the possibilities are pretty great. Like Twitter, brands act just like users on the platform, and users willingly consume brands’ content just like they do their friends. For sponsors, just as users, a premium is placed on great content. The difference between the two platforms is that you get so much richer content on Tumblr — photos, videos, longer form writing. It’s more immersive, and you can really express yourself in many different ways.” —

Rick Webb, former owner of The Barbarian Group, now an advertising advisor to Tumblr talking to me about native advertising — and in this quote specifically, discussing why Tumblr is better for brands. Take a look at the full interview, in which Webb waxes poetic about the advantages and disadvantages brands and publishers face when looking at online advertising.

I have been thinking about Tumblr, brands and advertising a lot lately.  I am very interested to see what Rick does here.  There are some enormous challenges in this world for Tumblr but also significant upside if they get it right.

“Unlike Mark Hamill and Carrie Fisher, Harrison Ford didn’t sign up for two more movies after the success of the first Star Wars. Ford thought that Han should just be killed off because he wasn’t interesting to him… George Lucas needed to figure out a way to “freeze” the character for a while in case they later had to explain why [Han Solo] never appeared again. And so Lucas, as one of the greatest creative minds of our time, decided to literally freeze the character.” —

Listening to the live cockpit audio...

…and it seems that - by far - JetBlue employes the most female captains.  I’m on a United flight and our captain just so happens to be female but after her and JetBlue I’m not hearing any other female voices out there.  I’m tracking about 50 flights.

This is interesting to me.

You know you're flying back-and-forth from NY to LA a lot when...

…the flight attendants remember how you take your coffe.  And then ask if your daughter will be coming on the next trip.
